farming
Lady of the Sunshine is rooted in regenerative, biodynamic farming—an approach that asks us to walk the land, listen closely, and learn from its rhythms. Our purpose is simple: to leave the land better than we found it.
I grew up on my family’s ninety-acre biodynamic ranch, Narrow Gate Vineyards in the Sierra Foothills, and I’m now a second-generation biodynamic farmer and winemaker inspired by my father’s trade. From an early age, I learned to work with Mother Nature, not against her. Regenerative practices can revitalize soil, build biodiversity, and transform waste into new energy.
We are certified demeter biodynamic farmers, farming 4 different vineyard sites within the SLO coast ava. Our new home vineyard, bassi, located in avila beach, is our forever farm - at 29 acres of planted vines and 112 acres of ranch land. we lease 3 other smaller vineyards, for a total of 42 acres of vineyard we farm certified Demeter biodynamic - a reflection of our deep commitment to regenerative agriculture, ecological stewardship, and holistic land care.
By farming in sync with natural cycles and restoring biodiversity above and below the soil, we aim to preserve the purity of the land and express it through our wines. We make our own compost and compost teas, plant diverse cover crops and pollinator meadows, and graze animals in spring, all to infuse the soil with as much life as possible. This is terroir in its truest sense—microbial terroir - alive and deeply rooted in place. It’s why we are farmers first.
